The Prayer of Jabez

Today, I noticed that the blogger ad spot on the top of my blog was for sites related to Christianity. One of the ads was for a site devoted to the Prayer of Jabez (I Chronicles 4:10), so I decided to check it out. After doing so, it appears to me that it goes in accordance with the whole concept of praying without ceasing. Those whose lives have been changed have witnessed the power of constant prayer using this scripture. And, that the Prayer of Jabez is a short, one verse prayer with four requests makes it easy to incorporate into one's daily prayer ritual:

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
I Chronicles 4:10

In this verse Jabez called on God to: 1) bless him, 2) make him prosperous, 3) keep His hand on him, and 4) keep him from evil. All good things to pray for, but mind the manner in which you pray.

Again, the scripture commands us to pray always, continually, without ceasing! (Luke 18:1, 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) Our prayers have a two-fold purpose:
1- Giving thanks to God with joy in all circumstances, at all times and for everything in the name of Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Ephesians 5:20).
2- Seeing Jesus in your neighbor: Whatever you do unto your neighbor, you do it to Jesus (Matthew 25:31-46).

Whatever the situation you are facing, God always answers every prayer with a BIG YES!
1- Either He calms the storm (e.g. He heals your ailment, He gives you a financial blessing)
2- Or, He calms you (e.g. He gives you what you need to survive the storm with peace, even with joy).

~::My church::~

I should've put a link to my church a long time ago, like when I first created this blog, but better late than never. www.communitygospel.org What I really like about my church is that all are welcome, truly. I really feel at home and that I belong there. The scripture tells us to love our neighbor as we love ourselve and my church is really a place where this is evinced. But, I really need to stop and get to work; I am supposed to be typing up something for the church's newsletter.

Seven Most Powerful Prayers to Pray Without Ceasing

1 Thessalonians
5:16
Rejoice evermore.
5:17
Pray without ceasing.
5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
5:28
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

Matthew
21:22
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

So, how do you pray without ceasing? Is there any specific formula to follow? I recently went to a website, www.prayerpower.com I think it was, that said it would send me seven great prayers to say daily—to pray without ceasing. Here they are:

1) “I love you, God!” Why? Prayer can be defined as:
1 : to make a request in a humble manner
2 : to address God with adoration, confession, supplication, or
thanksgiving
There is an order to effective 'daily praying.' And the first order of 'daily praying' is to 'Praise' God. We all have our life challenges. One of the biggest mistakes we all make when praying to God is that we 'ask for God's help' in solving our problems without first giving Him 'Praise' and 'Thanks.' The first 'daily' prayer you should pray to God is a prayer of 'Praise.' By giving God 'Praise' first, we take our mind off our problems and shift our focus onto Him. Praise God. Focus on God's love. Focus on God's goodness. Focus on your Oneness with God.

2) “Thank You, God!” Why? Many times it's the 'little' things that really make life so special; so THANK God for 'everything' - by THANKING God continuously you open yourself up to better receive more blessings from God. So turn your focus off your problems. Praise God and Give Him Thanks! You really do have so much to be THANKFUL for. Be thankful you’re a Christian. Be thankful that you have God as your best friend. Be thankful you woke up to see this day, problems and all. Be thankful you’re not some poor child dying in Africa or anywhere else in world, for that matter. Take a moment right now and write a list of all that you have to be thankful for! The more you thank God for what you’ve received, the more Blessings you will receive!! Make a list of at least 10 Prayers of thanks and add them to your daily praying!

3) “God, You are inside me!” Why? Prayer # 1 recognizes God, and that the POWER of God is 'inside' you. This prayer brings you closer to God. Here’s a powerful add-on: “GOD I BELIEVE AND KNOW YOU ARE INSIDE ME!” or “GOD, SINCE YOU ARE INSIDE ME, YOU ATTRACT GOOD THINGS TO ME AS YOU FULFILL YOUR PURPOSE THROUGH ME.”

4) "I attract GOD’S BLESSINGS" Why? The first three prayers built the “the foundation for the prayer that “attracts” an “abundant “life, and “blessings” from God. God wants you to like yourself! God wants you to have self-confidence! God wants you to be happy! So, this is a prayer of affirmation. What is an affirmation? An affirmation is a statement that’s said in the personal, positive, and present tense. Feel free to mix in affirmations with The first Three Great Prayers. As for the order and content, do whatever's most comfortable for you. It doesn’t have to be an exact science. It’s more important that you pray with feeling and love!

’God, I believe and know you are inside me!’
‘God, you like me, and I like me.’
‘God your love shines through me.’
‘God, I love you! And you love me.’
‘Thank You God for (fill in the blank).’
‘I’m happy, healthy, and loving.’
‘Day by day, in every way, I’m getting healthier and healthier.’
‘I feel happy, I feel healthy, I feel terrific!’
‘I like myself, I like myself, I like myself.’
‘Thank You God for (fill in the blank).’
‘Day by day, in every way, I’m getting closer and closer to God.’
‘I can do it!’
‘With God inside me, I can do anything.’
‘Day by day, in every way, I’m getting (fill in the blank).’

5) "GOD I SEE YOU EVERYWHERE” Why? This prayer helps to keep your focus on God. By saying this prayer everyday it helps you “recognize” that God, His presence, and power are everywhere. If you get so caught up on your problems; be it health, money, or a relationship, and your focus is on yourself and your problem, when it should always be on God, you’ll miss God’s messengers and events that have been sent your way, by God, to help you. God is always reaching out to help you and me. But many times He does it in ways that we just don’t see. By saying this 5th prayer, you’ll reprogram your internal radio station from WMEE(me) to WGOD.

6) "GOD BLESS AND I LOVE (fill in the blank).” Why? You see, if God is inside you (Prayer # 3), and God is everywhere (Prayer # 5), then whenever you see, meet, talk, and work with people, you recognize God’s presence everywhere, in everything, and in everyone. Loving one another has always been one of God’s top commandments, and Jesus asked us to do the same when he taught us to: Love thy neighbor as you would love yourself.

7) "GOD USE ME TO DO YOUR GOOD WORKS” Why? Many times we wonder, “What am I on earth for?” God as put you here to do good. Look, think, and pray to God for help and guidance on what you should do to help people and mother earth. For to "get" BLESSINGS you must first "give;" e.g. the famous saying: “It’s better to give then receive.” One of America’s foremost philosophers, Ralph Waldo Emerson said it best in his famous essay on The Law of Compensation when he said “Whatever you put out into the universe will come back to you TEN-FOLD.” So, if you want love, give love; you'll get ten times the love back! If you want money, give money, e.g., to the church; even if it's just pennies.

So, to recap:
1. I Love You God!
2. Thank You God for______________.
3. God, You are Inside Me!
4. I Attract God’s Blessings.
5. God, I See You Everywhere.
6. God Bless and I Love______________.
7. God, Let Me Do Your Good Works.

As simple as it may sound, all you have to do to have a life full of Abundance and Blessings is say these prayers to yourself, out loud, and write them down, everyday, the rest of your life; you will have a wonderful life, a purposeful life, and a happy life that both you and God will be proud of.
